HIGH SCHOOL STAFF
Head Coach
Mike KlyveHead CoachCoach Klyve joined the Lumberjack staff in 2020 after a 9 year stretch as both an assistant and head coach at Barnum HS. Coach Klyve is a 6th grade teacher at the Cloquet Middle School.
Defensive Staff
Lance HorvatDef. Coordinator / D-Line / RBsCoach Horvat has been part of the Lumberjack football staff since 2015. He is currently the Varsity Defensive Coordinator and works with the defensive line. Coach Horvat is a special education consultant for NESC
Jamie FastC-Team Def. Coor. LBs / RBsCoach Fast brings experience as a head coach and assistant. Previously he was the head coach for Carlton HS. He is currently the C-Team Def. Coordinator and coaches LBs. Coach Fast enjoys being at the cabin and having a cheeseburger in paradise.
Matt SolbergDefensive Analyst and Special Team ConsultantCoach Solberg has been with the Jacks since 2022. He is the JV Defensive Coordinator and Varsity Special Teams Coordinator and DBs Coach. Coach Solberg currently teaches Math at Proctor HS and is also the Head Girls Basketball Coach at Proctor.
Offensive Staff
Kyle WordelmanOff. Coordinator / QBs / RBsCoach Wordelman joined the Lumberjack staff in 2016. He is currently the Varsity Off. Coordinator. Coach Wordelman also coaches the varsity QBs. Coach Wordelman is a special education teacher at Cloquet High School.
Joe BackusWRs / RBs / JV Off. Coor.Coach Backus is a former Lumberjack who played for the Jacks through the fall of 2016. He is the JV Offensive Coordinator and varsity WRs coach. Coach Backus is a social worker at Cloquet High School. Coach Backus also coaches Baseball for the Jacks.
Tom LenarzSenior Offensive Quality Control AnalystCoach Lenarz is the Senior Offensive Quality Control Analyst and O-Line. Coach Lenarz was previously the Head Coach for Cloquet from 2002-2021. Coach Lenarz is the Principal at Cloquet Middle School
Kevin BrennerC-Team Off. CoordinatorCoach Brenner has been with the Cloquet Football program for many years. He coached with the junior high program for a number of years before moving up to be the C-team Off. Coordinator. He also works with the O-Line. Coach Brenner is a Math teacher at Cloquet High School.
Dane MasonJV Def. Coor. / LBs / O-LineCoach Mason joins the varsity staff coaching the 7th/8th graders last season. Coach Mason is a former player for the Lumberjacks. He is currently attending LSC and completing his schooling to be an electrician
